Ghost BC Infestissumam (2013)

Ghost BC infestissumam

Ghost BC have only been around for the past few years originally holding the name Ghost of which they are previously entitled on there succesful 2011 release Opus Eponymous . This mysterious Swedish outfit have managed to cultivate a strong following while keeping the symbolism and arcane nature which made there first release so ground breaking.

Although the sabbathesque crunchy guitar riffs are as evident as on the first record there seems to be even  more focus on the pomp driven chorus's giving nods to more classic pop roots to bands such as Abba but the content and substance itself still remains bleak and dark. The intro track  "infestissumam" opens up with an orchestral like chant with backing female vocals to give an earthy wide feel helping the listener conjure up mental images of papa walking out into a cathedral itself.

The third track which was also the third track to be leaked of this album is secular haze which starts of with the organ once more on the front lines and during the chorus we hear how diverse papa's vocals really are when he grits the words secular haze.

Another track that personally stood out for me is the long ballad like anthem Ghuleh/Zombie Queen which see's ghost taming down the pace and distorted tones to a almost David Bowie like ballad. Giving the album a more dynamic calm before the storm feeling.

The follow up track to this Year Zero is the second track which was released prior to the album's release and starts of with a church like chant showing us the occult influenced elements of the band are as in you're face as ever. The guitar, bass and drums then break in alongside the organ cementing a solid chugging groove with tone's which nod back to classic new wave of british heavy metal bands from early era maiden, saxon and the witchfinder general.

The album carries on with each track presenting the listener with catchy rememberable tracks with lyrics covering everything from love, Satan, mythology and of course sacrifice until the ending which in my opnion is one of there best tracks happily "entitled Monstrance Clocks" which has one of the catchiest chorus's ive heard in a while giving the listener a feeling of being united with the music.

Overall this is a strong follow up to an already very powerful and successful debut although the distortion has been turned down the dark powerful imagery people have come to love in this band are as powerful as ever with each track presenting something fresh and unique in a modern world where finding an iconic image in an over saturated industry is very rare. It's well worth the listen of anyone who appreciates good catchy music rock or not
